BOUNDARY

BOUNDARY is an audiovisual kinetic installation presenting a light travelling between the digital and physical space. The light changes its behaviour as it crosses the border between the two worlds, wandering freely and swiftly in the virtual projection, while inertly within the physical realm. The trajectory of the light can be influenced by the presence and gesture of the audience. Meanwhile, as the audience attempt to manipulate the light, they might instead find themselves being swayed by the very thing that they are trying to take control of.

By choreographing movements at the border between virtuality and physicality, the installation invites the audience to muse on the definition of the true boundary of the mechanical being.

Artist Bio:
Ryan (Cheuk Hang) Leung is an interdisciplinary designer born and raised in Hong Kong. He holds a Master’s degree in Computational and Advanced Design from DesignMorphine, and a Bachelor’s degree in Creative Media from City University of Hong Kong. Ryan has proficiency in creating both digital and tangible media. His passion lies in the realms of digital fabrication and handicraft of various materials, coupled with a deep-seated interest in computational design, human–computer interaction and physical programming.

After relocating to Toronto in 2023, Ryan continually diversifies his portfolio of mixed media, and has collaborated with numerous sound artists to create immersive audio-visual experiences. He is currently employed as an industrial designer at Philip Beesley Studio Inc.
