Queeny Rebel Empire is the alter ego of Toronto artist Ursula Queeny Krubnik—a painter, graffiti alum, and self-described “visual sociologist” whose work radiates defiance, joy, and deep-rooted feminine power. Raised by Eastern Bloc immigrants and shaped by the underground art scene of the late ’80s and ’90s, Queeny merges raw grit with playful mysticism. Her paintings—often built on salvaged materials—are ecstatic, story-rich worlds of bright color, divine feminine energy, and found-object alchemy.

With The Green Contemporaries (April 25–May 23, 2025), Mania proudly presents our first solo show by a female artist—an artist whose work doesn’t just speak to rebellion, but paints it in full bloom.

Rita Koos (1977, Budapest, Hungary) immigrated to Canada in 1988, eventually landing in Toronto, ON in 1990. “As a child, I was exposed to so much music, film, art, and theatre. My parents seemed consumed by culture and aesthetics. We traveled and moved around a lot.” Koos and Griffin met and became a couple in 2001 in Toronto. Koos is a self-taught artist, who began painting in 2014 following the birth of her second child with Griffin. “I was painting on nap time.” Her first solo exhibit “Choir Girls” in 2016, Toronto was followed by “ VOX” in 2017 at Katharine Mulherin Gallery in Toronto, followed by “ SEED” in 2018 and “MADARAK” in 2021 at The Lyceum Gallery in Toronto.
